About Our Organization

The India (Bengal) Cultural Association Japan (IBCA Japan) was established with the sole purpose of increasing cultural  exchange between India and Japan. At the turn of the 10th year, since our foundation with a humble Saraswati Puja in 2011, we proudly claim  that we are not merely limited to cultural exchange between the two countries but have gone far beyond that threshold through our efforts of increasing social and economic collaboration as well as embracing other Indian communities within our wing.

IBCAJ, primarily (but not limited to) an association of Bengalis from India, celebrates a myriad of events perennially, such as Saraswati Puja, Rabindra Jayanti, Indian Independence Day and Durga Puja to name a few. Beyond this we also gather round the year promoting cultural and social discussions…and sometimes just for fun!

The culture of India as well as West Bengal has been shaped by its long history, unique geography, diverse demographics and the absorption of customs, traditions and ideas from some of its neighbours as well as by preserving its ancient heritages, which were formed during the Indus Valley Civilization and evolved further during the Vedic age.  India’s great diversity of religious practices, languages, customs, and traditions are examples of this unique co-mingling over the past five millennia. The various religions and traditions of India that were created by these amalgamations have influenced other parts of the world too.

Bengalis have long been known for their literary, artistic and revolutionary heritage. As the former capital of India, Kolkata was the birthplace of modern Indian literary, artistic and scholastic ideas. Bengalis tend to have a special appreciation for art and literature and of course soccer. IBCAJ is a society that provides a platform for uniting the Bengali diaspora in Japan.
